SWWD Awarded Clean Water Legacy Partners Grant Funds

The SWWD has been awarded $250,000 from the Minnesota Board of Soil and Water Resources’ (BWSR) Clean Water Legacy Partners Grant Program.

With the funds, the South Washington Watershed District (SWWD) will continue a coordinated effort with the cities of Newport and St. Paul Park to reduce sediment and nutrient loading to the Mississippi River. The partners have worked together to install several stormwater filtration systems at key storm sewer discharges to the river in the two communities.

The selected site for this grant, just west of Newport Elementary, will be the fifth completed project of six priority locations in the community since work began in 2018. Project design and local outreach will begin this year; construction is expected in 2026 or 2027.
