Lakes & Rivers
Waters of the watershed
Did you know that some of the District’s largest lakes, like the Woodbury chain of lakes and Ravine Lake, owe their origins to ancient glaciers? As glaciers melted thousands of years ago, they left behind huge chunks of ice buried in deep valleys. When these ice blocks eventually melted, they created the beautiful lakes we see today! Nowadays, these lakes are hotspots for all kinds of fun, from kayaking and swimming to simply relaxing by the shore. However, changing land use has impacted the quality of these waters, and efforts are underway to protect and restore their natural beauty.
